Branding for education and training companies

Learners and L&D teams have heard “engaging content” promised so often it stopped meaning much. We help education and training companies show what learning with them is really like, with identities, platforms and decks.

What we’ve learned

The hardest thing to sell in learning is the moment it clicks.

VIVIDA was built on an uncomfortable fact: most of what traditional training teaches is forgotten within the first 24 hours. The people buying training know it too. A head of learning and development has sat through the slide decks. A career changer has been put off by acronyms, jargon and anything that looks like a war room. What both of them are looking for is a sign that this time, something will actually stick.

So we design for that moment. For Capslock, we made sure the first thing a nervous career changer sees is a person like them rather than circuitry or padlocks. For Auris Tech, we built the brand behind a reading app that gently helps children along instead of turning red when they stumble. For Emberly, we sorted every course by how learners want to feel: Energise, Create, Grow or Relax.

People make time for learning they can already picture.

How we help

A name and identity with room to grow

Brand strategy, naming and identity systems that hold together as you add courses, products and sectors.

For example: Moonhub’s naming system, taken from moons and missions

Platforms people can learn in

Websites, learning platforms and app UI that carry the brand into the lesson itself, as well as the page that sells it.

For example: Emberly’s platform, from memberships to gifting

Decks that win the room

Investor decks, pitch films and sales stories that help a young learning company convince investors, employers and partners.

For example: Capslock’s investor deck, ready for its pre-seed round

Simeon Quarrie

I am so unbelievably happy with this brand. So proud. It’s had a totally transformational effect on my ambition and vision. I’m always cautious when telling people to do something and then telling them to use a vendor. But with Outfly I was 100% confident.

Branding an education or training company

How do you brand an online learning platform?

+

Start with why people want to learn, then build the platform around it. Emberly grew out of a Camden dance studio, and we gave it a name, a promise, find what makes you glow, and a platform that handles memberships, single courses, bundles and gifting, with a learning area for members. By early 2022 it offered 70 video lessons across seven courses.

How do you brand an edtech product for children?

+

Make it credible to the people who buy it and gentle for the children who use it. For Auris Tech, the speech recognition engine behind the Fonetti reading app, we built a soundwave identity that feels technical without feeling sterile, sat it alongside Fonetti so the two read as one family, and created an Empowered by Auris signature for any app built on the engine.

Can Outfly help an education company get ready to raise investment?

+

Yes. For Capslock, a start-up retraining adults as cyber security professionals, we restyled its investor presentation into a deck built on the brand’s circles and half circles, ready for its pre-seed round. For Auris Tech, the speech recognition engine behind the Fonetti reading app, we built the brand as the company prepared to launch and raise investment.

Which education and training companies has Outfly worked with?

+

Our education and training work includes Emberly, an online course platform; VIVIDA and Moonhub, which make workplace learning immersive; Capslock, which retrains adults for cyber security careers; Auris Tech, the speech recognition engine behind the Fonetti reading app; and Love Language, a British Sign Language business whose Love Learning venture was planned to help colleagues learn to sign.
