Branding for consumer products and retail

The hard part isn’t making a good product, it’s getting a stranger to pick it up, trust it and pay, in a few seconds. We help consumer brands win those seconds, with names, packaging, product pages and launch campaigns.

What we’ve learned

Sales are often won or lost in moments nobody plans a campaign around.

Consumer marketing tends to pile its effort into the launch and the ad, then lose people somewhere in between: on a product page with two checkout buttons, in a box that feels like an afterthought, on a crowdfund page that has to sell a camera nobody can hold yet. That’s where a lot of sales quietly slip away, and more ad spend rarely brings them back.

So we work on the in-between. BEEN London’s ads were getting clicks, so we redesigned the product page they pointed to around the bag, a clear price, a Trustpilot rating and one Add to cart button. Roberts Radio’s Beacon pack echoes the speaker’s grille, and one reviewer couldn’t bring themselves to recycle it. Alice Camera’s 3D renders let backers picture a finished camera that wasn’t yet in production.

A great product still has to get past the product page.

How we help

Names and identities people warm to

Brand strategy, naming and identity that give a new product a personality buyers can describe to a friend.

For example: Curla, bold and simple like Curl but easier to defend

Packaging and pages that close the sale

Packaging, unboxing and ecommerce product pages designed for the moment someone decides whether to buy.

For example: the Red Dot Award-winning Roberts Beacon pack

Launches that prove demand

Crowdfund pages, launch films, paid tests and investor decks that show real people want the product before you scale it.

For example: Alice Camera’s Indiegogo launch, funded within 8 hours

Marketing a consumer product

Which consumer product and retail brands has Outfly worked with?

+

Outfly has worked with Alice Camera, Quiet Mark, Roberts Radio, the afro and curly haircare brand Curla, the recycled leather bag brand BEEN London, the vegan pizza brand NXT LVL PZA, the motorcycle navigation app Scenic, Massless, SENSSE Beauty and Hoala, across naming, identity, packaging, product design, ecommerce and launch campaigns.

Can crowdfunding prove demand for a new consumer product?

+

It can, if the page sells a product people can’t yet hold. For Alice Camera, Outfly designed a crowdfund landing page with a 3D scroll animation, supported an Indiegogo social takeover and made the campaign video, and it hit its target within 8 hours. For NXT LVL PZA we created decks, pitch videos and investor emails for its crowdfunding and private investment.

Is packaging design worth it for a consumer brand?

+

For a brand that sells on design, the box is the first thing a buyer touches. Outfly’s corrugated pack for the Roberts Beacon speaker echoes the classic Roberts grille, with sleeve artwork for 11 versions. Reviewers singled out the box, one couldn’t bring themselves to recycle it, and it earned a Red Dot Award. Curla’s care package was designed to feel like a gift.

Why do our ads get clicks but not sales?

+

Often the page they point to is leaking. BEEN London’s ads were getting clicks and basket adds, but too few people finished checkout. Our audits found product pages with two checkout buttons and no social proof, so we redesigned the page around the bag, a clear price, a Trustpilot rating and a single Add to cart button.
