Branding for cybersecurity companies

The people who sign off on security spend aren’t experts, and they switch off the moment a site starts shouting about threats. We help you sound calm, specific and human, so buyers understand what they’re buying.

What we’ve learned

In a category that sells on fear, the clearest supplier tends to get the meeting.

Most security brands reach for the same padlocks and warning signs, and buyers have learned to scroll past them. The person who has to act often isn’t an expert — a CIO just hopes nothing happens; an IT manager fears being blamed when it does. So we start from what the buyer worries about and make the product easy to understand and act on.

A buyer who understands you is already halfway to trusting you.

How we help

Positioning a buyer can repeat

Brand strategy that turns a technical product into one clear idea, so a non-expert can explain you to their own board.

For example: Mobial, renamed and built on one line, your path made clear

Identity and product that feel calm

Visual identity, websites and app design that make security feel approachable, with no padlocks in sight.

For example: CyberSmart’s rebrand and app redesign

Sales tools that move deals

Sales decks, insight reports and lead campaigns that give your sales team something to send and the right buyers a reason to reply.

For example: 60 leads for Crypto Quantique in eight weeks

Sam Soares

I couldn’t speak any more highly of the creativity, dedication, problem-solving and customer support Outfly is capable of. Definitely defying the concept of working with a branding, marketing and design agency.

Chief Growth Officer, CyberSmart
Kunmi Oludoyi

It’s been a great journey with Outfly. From our first deck to our latest campaign, they’ve helped us refine the way we talk about what we do, and how we show it to the world. The brand now represents the scale of our ambitions.

CEO & Co-Founder, Sorair

This is going to be nothing short of utterly transformative to the deals that we are moving along.

Questions security marketers ask

How do you market a cybersecurity product to buyers who aren’t security experts?

+

Start from what the buyer is worried about, then make the product simple to explain. Mobial’s buyers were small business owners, compliance leads and IT providers, so we renamed the company, dropped jargon such as maturity and endpoint, and built everything on one line: your path made clear. CyberSmart swapped a padlock logo for three ticks that signal assurance.

Can a rebrand help a security company grow?

+

It can when the brand finally explains the value. CyberSmart was an early stage startup hidden behind a padlock logo. After Outfly’s rebrand and app redesign its monthly recurring revenue grew 5x in two years, reaching £3.5 million ARR by May 2022, and it raised $10 million in Series A investment. Sorair, now backed by Techstars, Pi Labs and Haatch, used the investor decks and pitch strategy we shaped with its team, and has since won the first UK-wide BVLOS approval from the CAA.

How do you generate qualified leads for a cybersecurity company?

+

Offer buyers something useful for a problem already on their desk. Crypto Quantique’s white papers on IoT security standards and legislation, promoted on LinkedIn and Google, brought in 60 leads in eight weeks at £66.66 each, under LinkedIn’s £80 to £100 benchmark. For Aquilai, four weeks of split testing on LinkedIn produced 39 qualified leads.

Which cybersecurity companies has Outfly worked with?

+

Outfly has worked with CyberSmart, Sorair, Mobial, Ampliphae, Risk Ledger, Crypto Quantique, Aquilai and ThreatAware. The work covers naming, brand strategy, identity, app and website design, sales decks, insight reports and lead generation campaigns, usually for companies whose buyers need security explained in plain language before they will commit.
